The adventure playground at the Zoo am Meer

The Zoo am Meer, which opened in 1928, was completely rebuilt on the same site between 2001 and 2004. Due to the very small usable area of 1.2 hectares, it was possible to construct a new building. Despite its small size, a playground was planned from the start, so that children could let of steam after a tour of the zoo while their parents enjoy a piece of cake on the terrace. The zoo's focus on water-related and nordic animals was reflected in the design of the playground. A stranded ship is depicted, with the overturned bow serving as a hutch for the rabbits. Due to lack of space, the ship's cabin was built on stilts, under which the visitor's path continues. A suspension bridge leads from the raised platform of the driver's cabin to the kea enclosure and provides a special view. The height differences in the zoo have been used for a climbing path with a slide. Older children also like to use the playground for climbing and balancing.

The playground was built by SIK-Holz. It has been maintained by SIK-Holz every year since 2004 and in 2019, after 15 years and 4.6 million visitors, it was completely overhauled. A memory game and a wobbly figure were added to the playground as play elements for younger children. This will make it a special play experience for years to come and will round off a visit to the zoo.
